Joe Biden holds California and takes 55 electoral college votes

Joe Biden has held onto the state of California in the US presidential election race and clinched its 55 electoral college votes – the highest of any US state. ,

Moments after Biden won California, his Democrat party was also revealed to have held onto Oregon and Washington, meaning the entire US west coast voted for Biden to become president.

This puts Biden at 209 electoral college votes, with a slight lead over Trump, but many races are still tight. Results for key swing states have yet to be announced, although Trump is leading Biden in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.

Biden also won traditional Democrat states like New York and Connecticut, whereas Trump has won in Republican states like Oklahoma and Mississippi.

While many states have been called, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan are still too close to call.

Millions of Americas voted early and used mail-in ballots, but the election commenced by the end of the night on Tuesday.
