Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr subpoenaed by New York attorney general

Former President Donald Trump’s children Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump Jr have been subpoenaed by the New York State attorney general’s office as part of a civil investigation into Trump Organization business practices.

New York Attorney General Letitia James seeks to question the ex-president’s two eldest children, according to a court document filed on Monday.

The subpoenas were served on December 1, a source with knowledge of the filing told The New York Times. They were issued despite the Trump Organization’s efforts to stop lawyers with James from questioning the ex-president and his adult children.

James’ office has already questioned former President Trump’s third eldest child, Eric Trump, in October 2020.

Trump Jr and Eric became executive vice presidents of the Trump Organization after their father was sworn in as president in 2017. Ivanka, who also worked for her father’s family real estate business, became a senior White house adviser.

James’ civil investigation looks into whether the ex-president fraudulently inflated his business assets in order to reduce taxes owed and land favorable bank loans. Her office has obtained numerous documents in the inquiry and has probed several Trump Organization properties.

The legal filing revealing the new subpoenas was signed by a judge who oversaw a previous court action brought by James’ office forcing Eric to testify and the Trump Organization to submit business records.
