Instagram travel bloggers ‘were drunk’ when they fell 800ft to their deaths

A couple known on social media for their travel blogging were drunk as they plunged 800ft to their deaths at Yosemite National Park in California, an autopsy has revealed.

Meenakshi Moorthy, 30, and Vishnu Viswanath, 29, died from multiple injuries after they fell over the 800ft drop of Taft Point while taking a selfie in October last year.

An autopsy report says the couple had injuries to the head, chest, chest and abdomen and they were intoxicated with alcohol before they died.

In an email to the Mercury News on Friday, assistant Mariposa County coroner, Andrea Stewart, said: "’We can only conclude that they had consumed alcohol but it is unknown to what level of intoxication."

However, a forensic pathologist confirmed there were no drugs in their systems.

The autopsy was completed on January 4.

Vishnu’s brother told the Associated Press that the couple fell off the cliff edge after setting up a tripod nearby to take a picture, MailOnline reports.

However the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office says it is unclear exactly how the couple fell of the ledge.

The pair, who were Indian expats living in Claifornia, are known for their Holidays and Happily Ever Afters blog, accumulating 25,000 followers on social media.

They posted numerous travel photos on their blog, including selfies from a gondola in Venice and the Leaning Tower of Pisa at the Vatican.

Meenakshi had also used her social media accounts to talk about her struggle with depression and anxiety.

In a post from April, she said: "Between battling the tightening tentacles of depression and blustering in the tempest of moving madness, I am afraid social media is taking a back seat??’

She feared her existence may be harming her loved ones and added she was "paralyzed with anxiety".

Meenakshi described herself as a "quirky free spirit" and she wrote in her blog about how her and her husband were "travel obsessed".
