Idaho Man Is Charged With Murdering 4 Neighbors
An Idaho man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary after breaking into a neighbor’s home and fatally shooting four people, including a minor, prosecutors said on Tuesday.
The man, Majorjon Kaylor, 31, of Kellogg, Idaho, was arrested on Sunday evening shortly after the shooting, according to a statement from the Idaho State Police. Kellogg is a city with about 2,300 residents in the northern panhandle of the state, near the Coeur d’Alene National Forest.
A judge ordered that Mr. Kaylor, who appeared in court on Tuesday, be held without bond at the Shoshone County Jail.
The Shoshone County dispatch center received a 911 call at about 7:20 p.m. on Sunday indicating that multiple people had been fatally shot inside a residence in the 500 block of West Brown Avenue, the police said. Officers arrested Mr. Kaylor at the scene.
State police identified the victims on Tuesday as Kenneth Guardipee, 65; Kenna Guardipee, 41; Devin Smith, 18 and Aiken Smith, 16.
It was not immediately clear what had led to the shooting, but investigators said they believed it had happened after a dispute between neighbors.
At the hearing on Tuesday, Benjamin Allen, the Shoshone County prosecutor, said that the crime was committed in a “horrific manner.”
Lisa Chesebro, a lawyer for Mr. Kaylor, declined to comment on the charges on Tuesday. Mr. Kaylor did not enter a plea. Another hearing is set for July 3.
In Idaho, a first-degree murder charge can carry a maximum penalty of death.
“This is a tragic situation that will affect the Kellogg community,” Lt. Paul Berger of the Idaho State Police said in a news release on Monday.
