Heroic strangers rush to lift SUV off trapped woman after she is knocked down

Dramatic footage has emerged on social media that shows a group of strangers lifting up a SUV to free a trapped pedestrian.

The video shot in Manhattan, US, features the Good Samaritans flocking to the black Mercedes SUV after the woman was trapped underneath when she was knocked down while crossing the road.

In the 59 second clip on Twitter, the strangers emerge from all directions to carry out the heroic feat while the person filming them is heard saying 'Oh my God, Oh my God" in astonishment.

Collectively they managed to lift the vehicle and drag the women to safety.

Colby Droscher who shot the clip said: "Just now at Delancey and Norfolk in the Lower East Side an accident ran over a pedestrian trapping them under an SUV. Onlookers just lifted the SUV, dragging the victim out."

A second tweet by Colby shows the woman surrounded by fire crews.

He captioned the image: "The woman is awake and on her phone."

The video struck an emotional chord with some Twitter users.

One commented: "This made me tear up. They lifted the car and then just walked away like it was nothing. These are what super heroes look like."

Another person said: This is why I love New York! When I lived in California, I always said people would just let you bleed to death and not help, but New Yorkers are deeply kind people. Little known fact!"

The woman is believed to have suffered non-life threatening injuries.
