Golden retriever rescued after falling through ice chasing ducks on frozen lake
A golden retriever was rescued from a frozen lake after falling through the ice while chasing ducks.
Two-year-old pup Lucky fell into the freezing cold lake in Hewlett, Long Island, on Sunday morning after bolting from his owner’s house when he spotted the ducks on the lake.
But unbeknown to Lucky, the ice in the middle of the lake was very thin and he ended up submerged neck deep in the chilly water.
He ended up having to tread water for thirty minutes before first responders were able to rescue him.
His owner said it all happened after Lucky ran out of the house while the door was still open toward the pond full of ducks.
Rescue swimmers from the fire department were deployed and were able to safely reach the dog in the middle of the lake, reports ABC 7.
After he was pulled out, he ran across the ice back to shore and to his very relieved owner.
Lucky’s owner, Kalanit Lebouvich, said: ‘To the police department and the fire department, they did such a great job, I will be thankful to them for all my life, they just treated the dog like more than a human being, like there was no difference.’
Following the rescue Lucky was taken to an animal hospital for a quick check-up.
But he was able to go back home safe and sound later the same day.
