Ghislaine Maxwell seeks bail over Covid fears and says: 'I'm not Epstein'

Child abuse suspect Ghislaine Maxwell begged to be freed from jail to stop her getting coronavirus and told a judge: ‘I’m not Jeffrey Epstein.’

The alleged pedophile’s bail application says she is at risk of catching Covid-19 at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Brooklyn, where she is currently being held, and that the virus is starting to spread in its cramped quarters.

Papers filed Friday – ahead of a court hearing on Monday – say Maxwell, 58, will ‘vigorously’ defend herself against claims she groomed and molested three girls as young as 14.

Those papers, seen by The Sun say: ‘Sometimes the simplest point is the most critical one: Ghislaine Maxwell is not Jeffrey Epstein.

‘She was not named in the government’s indictment of Epstein in 2019, despite the fact that the government has been investigating this case for years.

‘Instead, the current indictment is based on allegations of conduct that allegedly occurred roughly twenty-five years ago.

‘Ms Maxwell vigorously denies the charges, intends to fight them, and is entitled to the presumption of innocence.’

Maxwell – who was born in France, raised in the UK, and holds French, British and US passports – has refuted claims she is a flight risk who would flee the country if freed.

She has offered to wear a GPS monitoring tag so police can keep tabs on her whereabouts, with her two dotcom millionaire sisters offering to stump up her enormous bail.

Maxwell was arrested at her $1million home in Bradford, New Hampshire, on July 2. She is accused of procuring girls for her ex-lover Epstein. The convicted pedophile killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting trial for child sex trafficking charges last August.

Maxwell has been made to wear paper clothes in jail in a bid to stop her hanging herself like Epstein. Friday’s papers say Maxwell faces a maximum 10 years behind bars, despite prosecutors warning she faced up to 35 years in prison if convicted on all counts.

Prosecutors also allege that Maxwell watched as Epstein molested the girls, and joined in the abuse herself on occasion. The offenses are said to have taken place in the US and UK between 1994 and 1997.

Maxwell faces further questions over her high profile friends, who include Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton. Her associated have all expressed shock at the allegations against Maxwell, and denied any wrongdoing.
