Donald Trump says Joe Biden's summit with Putin was a 'good day for Russia'

Donald Trump has attacked Joe Biden for ‘getting nothing’ out of his summit with Vladimir Putin and said ‘it was a good day for Russia’.

The former US president blasted his successor on Wednesday in an interview with Fox News, shortly after Biden’s meeting with Putin in Geneva had concluded.

Specifically, he accused Biden of giving in to the Kermlin and allowing them to carry on with building the ‘unbelievably valuable’ Nord Stream pipeline. The pipe will pump gas from Russia to Germany across the Baltic Sea, but was delayed by financial and legal sanctions from the US, where officials believe it will increase Russia’s leverage over European energy supplies.

Last month Biden lifted sanctions against the against the company behind the 90% complete pipeline. The sanctions were initially implemented by the Trump administration and led to the construction of the pipeline being paused. In lifting sanctions Biden argued that it was not worth antagonizing Germany.

Speaking to Sean Hannity’s Fox News show, Trump said: ‘I guess the overall is we did not get anything.

‘We gave a very big stage to Russia, and we got nothing. We gave up something that was unbelievably valuable.

‘I stopped the pipeline, Nord stream, and that pipeline was stopped. And it was given back, and nothing was gotten for it.

‘And it was just, it was another day.’

He added: ‘I think it was a good day for Russia. I don’t see what we got out of it.’

Trump, 75, then argued Germany and the EU should want to buy gas and other products from the US. He said there are 52,000 US troops in Germany to ‘protect’ the country from Russia,

He said: ‘I said, let’s get this straight, to Angela, I said: “We protect you, and the people that we protect you from, the country, you are paying billions of dollars, how does that work?”‘

Trump also accused the EU of ‘screwing’ the US and said he was concerned about a trade imbalance between the block and the US.

He said: ‘Think of it. We pay for their protection, and they – excuse the word – they screw us on trade, that is the only word that is descriptive enough.

‘Because they are in many ways worse than China or as bad as China on trade.

‘How many Chevrolets are being sold in Berlin? Not too many. How many Chevrolets are being sold in Paris? Not too many. Maybe none.

‘And yet, we sell their products, their wines and their cars and their Mercedes and BMWs and everything else, we sell it all over our country, and all of that was stopping.’

During the interview, Trump also seemed to finally admit defeat in the 2020 election, after months of claiming election fraud and suggesting he won.

Trump said: ‘We didn’t win. We were supposed to win easily, 64 million votes.

‘We got 75 million votes, and we didn’t win, but let’s see what happens on that.’

Trump has repeatedly teased his supports with hints that he might be considering running for president again in 2024. He has publicly said he’s seriously considering trying to make a return to the White House and has claimed that he’s more popular among Republicans now than he was when he was president.

On June 26 Trump will hold the first of four promised campaign-style rallies in Ohio. The rally will be held at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in the village of Wellington, approximately 40 miles southwest of Cleveland.
