Donald Trump says Andrew Cuomo 'destroyed New York' and slams his 'sex abuse'
Donald Trump has attacked Andrew Cuomo as the New York governor faces impeachment over claims he sexually harassed 11 women.
The former president, 75, said Cuomo, 63, has ‘got real problems’ after a damning 165-page report from New York’s attorney general, released on Tuesday, alleged he harassed multiple women – including some of his colleagues.
One alleged victim, named only as ‘Executive Assistant #1’ in the document, claimed Cuomo ‘grabbed her butt cheek and began to rub it’ while the pair worked at his home in Albany, New York.
Trump, speaking at the New York State Republican Party fundraiser on Thursday night, ripped into Cuomo over the report’s findings and also went on to claim he and city Mayor Bill de Blasio have ‘destroyed New York’.
He gave a mention to the state Senate Republican minority leader, Robert Ortt, who would participate in a Senate trial to remove Cuomo if the assembly chooses to impeach him. A decision on that is expected imminently.
‘It’s going to be a hot couple of weeks in Albany’, Trump said, reports the New York Post.
‘Senator Ortt is going to have a great time. Cuomo has found himself in an interesting situation.’
Trump, who himself has also been subject to unproven sexual harassment accusations, was also impeached by the House of Republicans but cleared in the US Senate earlier this year.
Trump also said Cuomo was ‘horrible on Covid’ – repeating his criticism that the governor didn’t properly use the USS Comfort hospital ship he dispatched to New York when the coronavirus pandemic was at its worst.
The former president also urged guests to get vaccinated and encouraged other Americans to do so ‘because I don’t want to see anything bad happen to my people’.
The fundraiser was attended by 500 guests and raised $1 million for the state Republican committee.
During the fundraiser Trump also called up Rudy Giuliani to the podium and the pair discussed the worsening crime situation in New York.
Murders in the city are running 37.6% above 2019 rate and the number of shooting victims are up a stunning 102.6% over the same time two years ago.
