Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani has tested positive for coronavirus, Donald Trump has claimed.

Taking to Twitter, the outgoing president said of his lawyer: ‘Rudy Giuliani, by far the greatest mayor in the history of NYC, and who has been working tirelessly exposing the most corrupt election (by far!) in the history of the USA, has tested positive for the China Virus. Get better soon Rudy, we will carry on!!!’

Mr Giuliani, 76, has been leading Trump’s legal fight to overturn the result of the presidential election, which saw Joe Biden win. The president did not offer any further information about the lawyer’s condition.

It is thought at least 40 people linked to Trump have caught the virus since September, with the president testing positive himself in October. He spent three days in hospital before recovering.
