Death of missing teen Kiely Rodni ruled accidental

A coroner has ruled that Kiely Rodni’s death in August was an accident.

Officials said there was no evidence to indicate foul play after the teenager’s body was discovered in her car, submerged in a lake on August 23.

‘This ruling is based on the pathologist’s finding that her death was the result of drowning and that there was no other information to suggest she was the victim of foul play,’ the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office coroner said in a statement.

Rodni went missing after attending a graduation party at a campground on the shores of the Prosser Creek Reservoir in August near her home in Truckee, California. Her disappearance triggered a weeks-long manhunt for the missing teenager, who authorities initially believed had been kidnapped.

Her body was found over two weeks later when a volunteer dive team, searched the bed of the Prosser Creek Reservoir.

Adventures with Purpose, a dive team that specializes in investigating cold cases, volunteered to comb the reservoir, even though investigators had already done so.

Using sonar equipment, the divers were able to locate Rodni’s car after only 35 minutes of searching. Her body was discovered inside the vehicle.

It is still unclear how Rodni’s car got from the road to the lake. The coroner has not shared the results of the toxicology test that was ordered immediately after her body was discovered.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the crime scene. The roads from the campground to the town of Truckee are narrow and curvy, but some investigators don’t think this explains the situation.

‘It doesn’t add up,’ Doug Bishop of Adventures with Purpose told Fox News Digital in September.

According to the divers, Rodni’s body was found in her car’s cargo hatch. If her car had accidentally fallen into the lake, she would most likely try to escape through the doors or windows.

‘You’re not going to crawl into the back and climb under a seat,’ Bishop said.
