Dad’s heartbreaking final moments with family before he was killed by intruders
A tragic dad had a heartbreaking final moment with his family before intruders killed him.
Brenton Estorffe let his two children blow out the birthday candles on his cake hours before he was murdered as he protected his family from intruders who broke into their Texas home.
His wife Angelenna shared the final memory of her beloved husband on Thursday, in a plea for his killers to come forward so that her family could finally feel safe again.
"We sang happy birthday to him and you know, the good dad that he is, he let the kids blow out the candles instead of him," Mrs Estorffe told Seven News.
"I just want whoever did this to understand what they did to our life, he was an amazing father."
Mr Estorffe, 29, originally from Queensland in Australia, heard a window break at the rear of his home in Katy, a town near Houston, around midnight on October 16.
His wife and children, a one-year-old and a three-year-old, were sleeping at the time.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls said when Mr Estorffe confronted the intruders, he was shot and killed.
The intruders have not been caught and Mrs Estorffe said: "My kids are going to grow up without a dad and that's not something I ever wanted.
"I just pray to God that they realise the mistake they've made and they just come out."
Mr Estorffe’s father, Michael Estorffe, told News Corp Australia Mrs Estorffe is now fearing for her safety and her kids, also adding police are doing regular patrols around the neighbourhood.
The devastated granddad said his son was shot twice in the chest and another shot went through the wall.
He also added that his three-year-old granddaughter, Asha, was squealing while the ordeal played out.
Mr Estorffe moved to the US in 2011 to play American football and study at South Virginia University. He had been working for the car rental company Enterprise in Texas.
Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls has vowed to find the killers.
Police are investigating whether the break-in was a case of mistaken identity with authorities baffled as to why the Estorffes were targeted.
“I want to sit down with the detectives and find out what they know. Brenton did the right thing. I want to know what is going on,” Mr Estorffe’s father told News Corp.
