Couples marry in huge 're-wedding' ceremony after Covid destroyed first plans
More than 200 couples who had their weddings spoiled thanks to Covid have re-married in a massive ceremony.
Most of us know a couple who was forced to either cancel their wedding or pick only a few people to attend what should have been a perfect day during the pandemic.
But people in New York finally got their chance to celebrate their love properly on Sunday evening.
Exactly 204 loved-up pairs took part in a symbolic, multicultural ceremony at Lincoln Center.
Sweet pictures show couples from a range of different backgrounds sharing kisses after saying their vows.
They walked down the aisle to greetings from the Big Apple’s Mayor Adams, who told them ‘you make me want to get married’.
All of them then partied the night away under a 10-foot disco light at a reception in Damrosch Park, the Oasis.
Yvette told ABC7 the event was ‘even better’ than what her original wedding would have been.
She got hitched to Ken Roper in Las Vegas three years ago but their reception was canceled by the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Lauren tied the knot with Everly again at the weekend following their first wedding in 2020.
This time, Everly, who is transitioning, got to wear the white gown.
‘So special. Incredible. All the performers, different religious leaders’, Everly said.
The event was also open to couples who wanted to re-commit to each other.
Ester and Walter Stutzman, who have been married for 47 years, decided to renew their vows.
‘We say we love each other every day. This is a chance to show everyone’, Walter said.
The ‘re-weddings’ were a part of Lincoln Center’s ‘Summer for the City.’
The ceremony wasn’t legally binding but marked a vow of commitment to celebrate love.
