Christmas shoppers cause ‘shameful’ carnage in rush to buy last-minute gifts

A woman is attempting to remind everyone what the holiday season is really all about.

In a viral post on Facebook Cassie Wade from Nashville, USA, shared several photos from her local shopping mall, showing toys, clothing, gift bags and other festive items chucked all over the floor and hanging off shelves, in complete disarray.

Alongside the chaotic images, she urged people to "re-evaluate" their behaviour and "be better" to retail employees.

She said: "Last night I needed to pick up a few items and decided to pop in a few of the stores in the same shopping center.

"These are just a few photos from two different stores.

"The lines were all full of people buying holiday gifts and some complaining about the lines. If this is your Holiday Spirit, you need to re-evaluate some things. I overheard a lady yelling at a cashier about Christmas lights.

"I made conversation with my cashier because I could tell it had been a rough day and one of her statements was 'at least I haven’t cried today'.

"Y’all it’s glitter and garland, why are you yelling at retail employees."

She added: "Take an extra moment to be a decent human to retail and hospitality folks. They have to work insane hours during the holidays so you can buy the latest and greatest for your family while they are away from theirs  #bebetter ."

More than 68,000 people shared her shocking post, with hundreds commenting on it.

Many shared her disapproval, branding the mess "disgusting" and "shameful".

One person wrote: "This is f**king ridiculous!"

Another replied: "This is awful. What is wrong with people?!"

A third said: "It blows my mind how low people are willing to sink in the name of a holiday, corrupted by Capitalism."

Someone else responded: "WTF? If I accidentally knock something off of hanger I have to put it back. I don't understand people. The human race is getting out of fucking control."

"I just don’t understand why people have to be so awful and inconsiderate, this is shocking," added a different user.

And this isn't the only chaos being caused this Christmas.

Supermarket shelves were left empty on December 24 after Christmas food was "looted" by manic last-minute shopping, customers have said.

Empty shelves were seen in Tesco, Aldi and Sainsbury's.

People have been sharing their experiences online, while staff both in store and over social media do their best to track down the festive essentials people need.

"I just nipped to Waitrose, then Sainsbury’s – both shops have been looted. The shelves were empty! So it’s bin bags and bleach for Christmas lunch… again," one shopper tweeted.

Another added: "I must have missed the memo that advised customers to buy all they need for Christmas dinner before December 24."

Another simply shared a picture of empty shelves at Sainsbury's the caption: "SCENES #livexmasshop".
