Car Crashes Into Trump Plaza in New Rochelle
A black Mercedes-Benz smashed into the lobby of the Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, N.Y., on Tuesday night, injuring the driver and at least one other person in what appeared to be an accident, the authorities said.
The police were still investigating what led the driver to crash into the building around 8:40 p.m., but it did not appear to be intentional, said Sgt. Chris Castiglia of the New Rochelle Police Department.
The police said the injuries were minor.
Videos posted on social media on Tuesday night showed the Mercedes sitting in the lobby with its hood and trunk popped open, as firefighters clambered in and out of the building.
The 40-story glass-and-concrete luxury residential tower, at 175 Huguenot Street, opened in 2007.
When it opened, Donald J. Trump — speaking in front of his building, as fans cheered from passing cars and others lined up for his autograph — called the event a milestone in “the renaissance of New Rochelle.”
The building was developed by Louis R. Cappelli, the chairman and chief executive of Cappelli Enterprises. In 2005, he also developed Trump Tower at City Center, a 35-story condominium building in White Plains, just 10 miles from the plaza.
The Trump Plaza includes a fitness center, outdoor roof deck and business center.
