California Bowling Alley Shooting Leaves at Least 3 Dead and 4 Injured
At least three men were killed and four more injured in a shooting at a bowling alley in Torrance, Calif., the police said early Saturday.
The Torrance Police Department said on Twitter that there had been “reports of shots fired with multiple victims down” at Gable House Bowl in Torrance, a southeastern suburb of Los Angeles.
The police urged people to “stay away from the area.”
Reports of shots fired with multiple victims down. T P D is on scene. Investigation is ongoing. Please stay away from the area.
Local news outlets said at least three men had been killed and four others injured before midnight. Two were taken to the hospital, and the others sought medical attention, The Associated Press reported.
No further information was available. Phone calls to the Torrance Police Department seeking comment were not immediately returned.
Jesus Perez, who was at the bowling alley, told The Los Angeles Times that he had heard about four gunshots.
“We just ran right into the bar and took cover. All we heard was just, like two people got shot,” he said.
“We heard there was a big fight before that,” he added. “We just ran into the bar and we just took cover because after the fight we heard pop-pop.”
The Los Angeles Times reported that people could be seen outside the venue crying, vomiting and clutching one another.
One man told the newspaper that he had heard nine shots.
In November, a gunman set off smoke bombs and opened fire at a country-music bar, the Borderline Bar & Grill, in Thousand Oaks, Calif., killing at least 12 people.
A Marine Corps veteran who had served in Afghanistan, Ian D. Long, was later identified as the suspect.
The bowling alley’s website said it offered glow blowing, laser tag and a full arcade.
Torrance, which is about 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles, has a population of about 147,000.
