It seems blaming the innocent family pooch for not being able to hand in your homework is so passé.

In 2019, schoolchildren are citing more in-depth reasons as to why their schoolwork hasn’t been completed.

Take 14-year-old Edward Cortez, for example.

The young lad recently found himself in hot water for not doing his homework and, as punishment, was instructed to write an essay explaining his reasons why.

Rather than make excuses, he was refreshingly honest. Maybe a little too honest…

"I didn’t do my homework because I don’t want to school work over the weekend because it’s a stress free time to go out with friends, watch TV and play games ," he begins.

And there was more.

Warming to his theme, Edward, from California added: "I don’t [sic] do it also because it make me [sic] very mad and unhappy, I do what make [sic] me happy because I want to be happy plus my mom has been finding grey hairs not trying to stress out dog […]"

A strong point, and Edward wasn’t done yet.

"The real world jobs don’t give you homework unless you’re a boss or teacher," he continues.

"Homework is not a real thing in the real world so we should not have to do it in school because it’s not useful.

"Case closed, the court rule in favour of Edward Immanuel Cortez in the case of student vs homework."

Edward’s letter was posted on Twitter by his dad’s cousin Lydia and quickly got a massive reaction.

Mostly people felt that Edward was spot on with his arguments.

"I mean the points he made were 100% valid….I do what makes me happy," one woman replied.

Another added: "That kid is gonna do big things in life."

And it’s given others some real food for thought, with one man writing: "I’m not a boss or teacher and I’m bringing work home. This kid got me reevaluating my circumstances."
