Boy, 6, and baby sister killed after getting trapped in freezer are pictured

These are the first pictures of a brother and sister who tragically died after getting trapped inside a freezer along with another child.

Dawlton, six, and Kayleigh, one, have been named by a distraught family friend as two of the tragic youngsters involved.

They were playing with another four-year-old – who has not been named – when they all climbed inside an unplugged chest freezer left in a garden in Suwanee County, Florida.

It is thought a hasp lock fell shut, meaning they could not get out and they were left fighting for their lives.

They had been left alone while their babysitter went to the bathroom, police said.

When the woman could not find them she alerted another female in the house and they began a frantic search.

Their worst fears were confirmed when they found the three children not breathing inside the freezer.

A police official said: "Unfortunately, all efforts to resuscitate the children were unsuccessful and all three children died."

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Scott Whisnant for the siblings who "had a tragic ending to their lives too soon".

It reads: "I babysat these two children I bonded with them. Their family is like my family and I’m wanting to help ease the burden.

"These funds are going to be used to help with final expenses and whatever bills there is. I would like to be able to hand this family the funds within two weeks.

"Let’s help this grieving family but more importantly let’s help show kindness to Kayleigh and Dawlton."

A police official confirmed earlier this week that initial investigations revealed "for unknown reasons they climbed inside of a chest freezer that had recently been brought to the residence, but was not yet plugged in or brought inside, when the adult female went inside of the residence to use the restroom."

They added: "When the female returned to the yard, she could not locate the children so she woke up the other adult female who was at home, sleeping, preparing to work the night shift, and they began to search the property and an adjacent vacant home for the children.

"When they opened the chest freezer, they discovered all three children inside of it, not breathing, and began resuscitative efforts and called 911.

"Upon further inspection of the freezer, an after-market, hasp had been installed on the lid in order to secure a padlock on it.

"It is believed at this time, that when the children entered the freezer, and the lid closed, the hasp fell shut, trapping the children inside. There was no padlock on the freezer.

"The Florida Department of Children and Families has also been notified.

"The investigation is still ongoing, but at this time, foul play is not suspected. However, this case will be forwarded to the Third Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office for review."
