Boy, 3, shoots pregnant mum in the face after finding loaded gun

A heavily-pregnant mum is fighting for her life after her three-year-old son accidentally shot her in the face.

The 27-year-old was in bed watching TV when the weapon went off in the child’s hand, according to police in Washington.

The gun had been borrowed by the child’s dad from a friend or relative, according to reports in the US.

The woman, who is eight months pregnant, was injured at 4.40pm on Saturday.

Sgt Ryan Abbott, of the King County Sheriff’s Office, said the boy’s dad had moved the loaded gun close to the bed after hearing noises outside.

He told Kiro 7 : “He (the child) found a handgun that was unsecured there and he grabbed it, and before anyone knew what happened, heard a pop sound.

"And the mom was shot in her face area."

Abbott said her condition is life-threatening.

And he said the child will be "affected forever", urging families to keep weapons locked up in their homes.

By law in Kings County, guns need to be locked up, and the dad could face criminal charges.
