1 dead following serious collision west of Napanee
A serious collision on Highway 401 west of Napanee has killed one woman, according to provincial police.
This is the second crash to occur in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in that area in one day.
OPP have closed all lanes of the highway between Shannonville Road and Marysville Road in Tyendinaga Township to deal with a collision.
At least five vehicles were involved, police say. OPP say one woman was killed as a result of the collision, and that her family is on the scene.
There is currently no word on any other injuries, although police originally reported multiple serious injuries.
Two Ornge helicopters were sent to respond to the collision, but both were cancelled.
This collision comes just minutes after OPP cleared another serious collision that happened earlier Friday morning.
The first collision happened around 5 a.m. and closed the eastbound lanes of the Highway until about 3:30 p.m. The second collision happened shortly after the eastbound lanes were reopened.
OPP say the closure of the eastbound lanes is projected to last between six and eight hours. Police have set up an alternate route through Marysville Road to Deseronto Road, then south back to Highway 401.
Traffic is at a complete standstill in the eastbound lanes.
More information to come.
