Reports suggest Banks was dropped off at the wrong passageway at the complex, which confused the teen and took him in the wrong direction.

He knocked on a door he believed to be his own apartment but when the door was not answered he walked away to continue looking for the correct home.

During this time, it is claimed the teen was speaking to his girlfriend using FaceTime tell her he was almost home.

Police say that as Banks walked away, a man from the wrong apartment opened the door.

He has been named as 32-year-old Darryl Bynes.

According to police, Bynes walked back into his apartment, grabbed a gun and emerged on his balcony where he confronted the unarmed teen.

Following a short conversation, he shot Banks as he attempted to leave down a flight of stairs.

Speaking to local TV station WSB-TV, Banks’ girlfriend said she heard him tell Bynes “sorry i’m at the wrong house”.

She added: “The man then said ‘no you’re not. N**** you at the right house.’

“And he shot two more times.”

Bynes was charged with murder, despite claiming he fired at the teen in self-defence.

A neighbour’s account of what happened corroborated with Mathis’.

The neighbour told WSB-TV: “I see him running around the corner and all you hear him saying is, ‘I am sorry. It was the wrong door’.

“(He said), ‘you ain’t come to the wrong door’ and shot him a third time.

“I saw him drop to the ground.”

Investigators believe the Bynes shot the teen from his balcony as his victim tried to get away.

Family friend Michael Wallace said: “This is a 19-year-old child that didn’t even deserve to die, that hasn’t even lived his life.”

However, Bynes family are continuing to protest his innocence claiming he is just “an innocent father”.

Bynes’ cousin Makayla Johnson said: “He has five kids, he was protecting his family.

“His truck was stolen earlier this week, right now, he’s just trying to protect his family.”

Local media reports that Bynes was charged with murder at the Fulton County Jail.
