Russian opposition leader Navalny released from jail

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been released after spending a month in jail for calling for an unsanctioned protest.

Navalny walked free on Friday and vowed to keep protesting against the Russian government.

Navalny, along with several opposition activists, have led a protest movement earlier this summer against Russian election authorities’ decision to bar nearly two dozen independent candidates from running for the Moscow city legislature in the Sept. 8 election. One of these rallies was the largest anti-government protest that Moscow had seen in eight years.

Authorities have clamped down on the protests, refusing to give permission for them, briefly detaining 1,400 people and arresting dozens of protest leaders, including Navalny. Some of the independent city council candidates were sentenced to several back-to-back short stints in jail.

Gold Dips Ahead Of Powell’s Speech

Gold drifted lower on Friday and remained on track to post its first weekly decline in four as investors awaited further guidance about whether the U.S. Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in September.

Spot gold edged down 0.1 percent to $1,497.04 an ounce, while U.S. gold futures were down 0.15 percent at $1,506.55.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell will speak later today at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, after minutes of the most recent Fed meeting failed to point to further rate cuts down the road.

According to meeting minutes released earlier this week, Fed officials who voted to lower interest rates three weeks ago noted that the move shouldn’t be viewed as an indication that there is a “pre-set course” for future cuts.

Two U.S. Federal Reserve officials on Thursday said they see no need for an interest-rate cut next month as further easing could pose risks to financial stability.

The U.S. dollar held firm today ahead of the closely watched financial symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Moody’s Investors Service on Friday cut India’s GDP growth forecast for 2019 calendar year to 6.2% from the previous estimation of 6.8%.

For 2020 calendar year, it reduced the estimate by a similar measure to 6.7%.

In a statement, it said the weaker global economy has stunted Asian exports and the uncertain operating environment has weighed on investment.

Moody’s cuts its growth outlook for 16 Asian countries

Moody’s Investors Service on Friday said it’s revised downward its GDP growth outlook for 16 Asian economies. The revision came due to sharp slowdown in "externally-oriented" economies, as well as domestic factors holding back Japan, India and the Philippines. Softer capital formation has mirrored the weakening in exports, especially for trade-reliant economies such as Korea and Hong Kong, Moody’s said.

Video captures Yellowstone bison ramming rental car during stampede

Yellowstone tourist walks dangerously close to Old Faithful, allegedly flips off disapproving crowd

Yellowstone tourist walks dangerously close to Old Faithful, takes a photo then flips off the crowd before being escorted away by rangers.

“I can’t believe we didn’t take the insurance.”

That was Bruce Delle Chiaie’s reaction after filming the moment a bison crashed into his rental car as a herd of the 2,000-pound animals ran through traffic in Yellowstone National Park.

Dozens of North America’s largest land mammal can be seen filtering through stopped vehicles during a stampede that Chiaie believed was caused by the beeping noise made by a reversing car.

Watch: 2019 BMW 320d review and test drive

Here is the test drive and review for BMW’s all-new 3 series, 320d

The BMW 3 Series is now in its seventh generation, and the company says the car is the best 3 Series to drive, ever. It’s expected to be launched in July 2019. Is it worth waiting for?

Based on BMW’s Cluster Architecture (CLAR), the new 3 Series is around 55kg lighter, a massive 50% stiffer, and longer and wider than its predecessor. It gets a 10mm lower centre of gravity, a wheelbase that’s longer by 41mm and the track, in general, is up by 30mm too. It also has an all-new damping system that offers greater control of the springs.

The exterior design merges nicely with the car’s sporty fundamentals. It’s more aggressive and edgy, there are sharper lines and cuts, and the larger wheels give it a more planted look. While the basic silhouette remains unchanged, the nose of the car is all-new. The kidney grille is much wider, the headlights seem to emerge from under the grille and there are exaggerated cuts on the bonnet. The car also gets three different chins, with the 320d being the neatest of the lot and the least aggressive. At the rear, all 3 Series get twin tailpipes, the 320d included. The design of the rear, however, is a bit too simple and anonymous. Remove the BMW badge and it could be anything.
