Britons are on alert as the Met Office has issued a rare amber warning for rain, with a brutal system forecast to strike at exactly 3pm today. The alert means there is a risk of flooding as heavy rain threatens to spark travel chaos. It also states there will be a “danger to life from fast-flowing or deep floodwater”.

The Met Office warned Britons to expect: “Homes and businesses flooded and damage to some buildings, danger to life from fast-flowing or deep floodwater, delays or cancellations to train and bus services, spray and flooding leading to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, some communities cut off by flooded roads, power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.”
