President Trump went after presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden in a tweet, saying that he would prefer a Democratic National Convention where he “doesn’t have to show up.”

“Joe Biden wanted the date for the Democrat National Convention moved to a later time period. Now he wants a ‘Virtual’ Convention, one where he doesn’t have to show up. Gee, I wonder why?” the commander in chief tweeted Monday morning.

“Also, what ever happened to that phone call he told the Fake News he wanted to make to me?” he continued.

The president was referring in his tweet to Biden’s comment on Sunday where he suggested that his party’s convention may need to be held with everyone participating from home as a result of the CDC and WHO recommendations issued in an effort to halt the spread of coronavirus.

“Well, we’re going to have to do a convention, may have to do a virtual convention,” the former vice president said on ABC News’ “This Week.”

“I think we should be thinking about that right now. The idea of holding a convention is going to be necessary, but we may not be able to put 10,000, 20,000, 30,000 people in one place and that’s very possible.”

The Democratic National Committee announced last week that it was postponing the convention in Milwaukee from July 13 to 16 to the week of Aug. 17 because of uncertainties about the spread of the virus.

Biden’s team had been recently coordinating with the White House to set up a phone call between the likely 2020 rivals to discuss coronavirus, the Democratic hopeful told reporters last Thursday.

“Yesterday, the Trump administration suggested I should call the president to offer my help,” Biden said with a laugh, “Well, I’m happy to hear he’ll take my call; my team’s working with him with set it up.”

President Trump told reporters in response that he’d “love” to take Biden’s call.

“I always found him to be a nice guy,” he said, “I don’t know him very well, frankly, but I think he’s probably a nice guy…If he’d like to call, I would absolutely take his call.”

Biden took to the social media platform to offer a response to the critique-filled tweet.

“Mr. President, I hope we can gather in Milwaukee, but that is going to depend on you stepping up and doing what needs to be done to handle this pandemic. I have laid out how you can do that: https://joebiden.com/covid19-leadership/. Happy to discuss anytime,” he wrote.
