Nordea HQ searched over money-laundering probe

Nordea Bank Abp’s (NDAFI.HE) Danish headquarters were searched last week by the Danish Prosecution Service as they continue their money laundering probe into the bank, Nordea said late Monday.

The Danish Financial Supervisory Authority investigated Nordea’s Danish operation in June 2015 to assess compliance with anti-money-laundering regulations, and after expressing criticism, and a year later handed the case over to the Prosecution Service for further investigation.

Nordea has long said that it expects to be fined in Denmark for previous weak anti-money-laundering processes and procedures, and earlier this year took a 95 million euro ($106.6 million) provision for the ongoing probe.

In a statement, Nordea comnfirmed that the Danish Public Prosecutor for Serious Economic and International Crime, known as SOIK, searched Nordea’s Danish head office Wednesday last week. "Nordea is already under investigation by SOIK and this visit relates to the pending investigation," it said.

Nordea said that since 2015, it has invested over EUR730 million within risk, compliance and resilience, and it has more than 1,500 employees working solely on fighting money laundering and financial crime.

"We are fully cooperating with the Prosecution Service to ensure that they have access to all relevant information," said Frank Vang-Jensen, head of Nordea in Denmark.

EU car sales return to growth in May

New car sales in the European Union edged higher in May, marking the first increase following eight months of decline.

New car registrations, a reflection of sales, rose 0.1% in the EU compared with a year earlier to 1.40 million vehicles, the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association said Tuesday.

"Demand in the region was mainly driven by the Central European countries, where registrations went up by 6.2% last month," the association said. The EU’s five largest markets showed a mixed result. Spain, the UK and Italy posted lower figures, with registrations down 7.3%, 4.6% and 1.2% respectively. However, demand rose 9.1% in Germany and 1.2% in France.

Of the German car makers, Volkswagen AG VOW was the only one to post a decline in May, with sales down 2.1%, while demand for BMW AG (BMW.XE) cars rose 8.8% and Daimler AG (DAI.XE) registered 0.4% more vehicles.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCAU, FCA.MI) sales declined 8.1%, while sales were down 4.4% for Ford Motor Co. F, +0.70% Peugeot SA (UG.FR) saw demand rise 4.3%, while sales fell 3.7% for Renault SA (RNO.FR).

In January to May, new car registrations across the EU fell 2.1% to 6.7 million units in total. With the exception of Germany, the five big EU markets all posted slight declines in the period, ACEA said.

Trump Lashes Out At His Once-Favorite Network: ‘Something Weird Going On At Fox’

President Donald Trump on Monday slammed Fox News after his once-favorite network released a new poll that shows him trailing against many of his potential 2020 Democratic rivals.

The poll shows Trump losing to former Vice President Joe Biden by 10 points and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) by 9. It also shows Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg with very small leads over Trump.

“Something weird going on at Fox,” the president tweeted. “Our polls show us leading in all 17 Swing States.”

It’s not clear what internal polls he was referring to. However, Trump reportedly fired some of his own pollsters after leaked internal polls showed him trailing Biden in key states.

Last month, Trump slammed Fox News for even covering the Democrats, and was especially annoyed at the network’s town hall event featuring Buttigieg.

“Fox is moving more and more to the losing (wrong) side in covering the Dems,” he wrote.

Trump still seems to favor Sean Hannity, a network host who not only supports the president but has taken the stage with him at a rally.

The president didn’t mention Hannity by name, but in the evening cited the network for something that appeared on his show:
