Tragic young mum of eight-month-old baby ‘took own life’ weeks before birthday

A young mum was found dead by her dad just weeks before her 25th birthday.

Chloe McDaid, from Wallasey, Liverpool, was found dead on July 2.

Chloe, who was a mum to an eight-month-old baby girl, is believed to have taken her own life.

In an heartbreaking tribute, Chloe's mum Mandy McDaid said her daughter could "light up a room with her smile" and was a "friend to everyone" but struggled with her mental health.

The 54-year-old, who described her daughter as a "very social person with lots of friends", is now calling for better awareness about suicide risks.

Ms McDaid said her daughter was the type of person who would always be there for friends and was a "fantastic" mum to her baby girl, Melodie.

The 54-year-old told The Echo: "She was a very social person and had lots of friends. She was the kind of person who would light up a room with her smile.

"And that's what we want to get across – she was also broken as well. She spoke to friends about different things that were going on, but it was not till we got to the hospital that we realised."

Chloe's mum said that she had lots of interests when she was younger like gymnastics and making clothes, and "always looked good".

She had also recently become a full-time mum to a baby daughter.

Ms McDaid said: "She was a fantastic mum. I was there when she first saw her and she just could not believe she had managed to make her. She just kept saying 'I did that, I did that.'

"She said Melodie was her life. She loved Melodie and it's so sad that she's going to grow up without her."

A friend of Chloe's, Jessica Jones, added: "She was an amazing mum, she was always keeping her and Melodie busy. I admired her as a mother, she was one of those mums who made all her own baby food. Even from when Melodie was tiny she would take her swimming every week.

"She was genuinely an amazing mother and an amazing friend."

Ms McDaid added that the family have been preparing a book of memories to give to Melodie when she's older.

She said the family has been "all in bits" since Chloe's death and they all miss her "every day".

She said Chloe had "lost her fight" with her mental health, despite speaking to her parents and friends about it.

"We never expected her to do something like this," she added.

She said: "I sometimes say to God 'why did you take her, we need to have more people like Chloe here.'"

The family has embarked on several charity ventures with friends of Chloe's to raise money for mental health support.

While Chloe did speak to family and friends about her mental health, Ms McDaid is calling for access to professional mental health services to be easier and waiting times for care reduced.

Following her death, Mrs McDaid said she hopes to see waiting times for care to to be reduced.

Before Chloe died, Ms McDaid said Chloe had registered to be an organ donor and has since saved the lives of four people.

She said: "I didn't think she could make me any prouder before that."

The family are now hoping to get a memorial bench made with Chloe's name on in New Brighton Promenade.

She said: "We just think it could attract people to go to it if it was brightly coloured and if it had ribbons on. We want it to have messages on it like 'you will be missed' or phone numbers of places for people if they need help.

The bench is planned to be brightly coloured and include messages such as "you are loved" and mental health charity phone numbers on for people to seek help.
