Sickening moment gang attacks boy, 15, with bats and knives leaving him in coma

This is the sickening moment gang members attacked a schoolboy in the heart of France's capital – leaving the youngster fighting for his life in a coma.

The 15-year-old Ukrainian boy, only identified as Yuriy, was left in a coma after the violent assault near the Eiffel Tower and the Beaugrenelle shopping centre in Paris.

His mother Nataliya Kruchenyk told local media that her son was walking home from school with his friends when a mob of hooded men came running towards them.

She said the others managed to escape but her son fell over and was hit by the group.

CCTV footage shared on social media shows the group armed with metal rods, bats and knives kicking and beating Yuriy as he lies in a foetal position on the ground.

One man is seen repeatedly beating him with a wooden bat while another stomps on his head several times.

The attack took place at 6.30pm local time on January 15.

Yuriy is currently in a coma in a hospital in Paris after the attack that resulted in the Paris public prosecutor's office opening an investigation for “attempted voluntary homicide”.

Vadim Omelchenko, Ukraine's ambassador in France, wrote on Twitter to call for witnesses to come forward.

He wrote: "A tragic incident has occurred in Paris, which resulted in unknown people beating Ukrainian teenager Yuriy."

The Ukrainian Consulate is liaising with local law enforcement officials, he added.

Yuriy's mother meanwhile has created an Instagram account to help the investigation.

The gang reportedly reportedly consisted of 10 unidentified individuals and Yuriy was left with skull punctures, arm and rib fractures, stab wounds and eye trauma.

The incident has sent a wave of outrage across the country, with some French celebrities taking to social media to express their anger over the attack and best wishes for Yuriy.

Footballer Antoine Griezmann tweeted on Saturday: "Unbearable images. Be strong, Yuriy, and get better."

Omar Sy, the star of Netflix crime drama Lupin, wrote: "I wish you a strong recovery, Yuriy, and I’m thinking of you and yours."
