A MASSIVE manhunt was last night under way for a “shifty” suspect wanted over the murder of school teacher Sabina Nessa.

The balding scruff was caught on CCTV furtively pulling a hood over his head soon after the 28-year-old’s killing.

He has emerged as the lone suspect for attacking Sabina moments after she left her home for a date.

The killer bludgeoned her over the head with a mallet-type weapon outside the block of flats where she lived in Kidbroke, South East London, at 8.30pm last Friday.

Hundreds gathered and lit candles in an emotional vigil for the "brilliant" teacher on Friday night.

The attack on Sabina was caught on grainy CCTV and the fiend was seen hoisting her over his shoulder and carrying her away.

Her body was found by a dog walker the next day near a community hall in Cator Park, Kidbroke, under plastic sheeting covered over with leaves.

The prime suspect was caught on another CCTV camera soon after walking by a block of flats in nearby Pegler Square.

Police yesterday released footage showing him looking shiftily over his right shoulder across the road as if to check what was behind him.

He appeared to be agitated and reached behind his neck and brought a hood up over his head before disappearing from the camera’s view.

Police said the man “had access” to a silver car also caught on camera in the area.

It is understood detectives have strong suspicions about the identity of the suspect and the vehicle’s number plate — but both were still being sought last night.

A source said: “The focus of the investigation is about finding Shifty.”

Police arrested a 38-year-old man at an address in Lewisham, South East London, on Thursday but has been released under investigation and is no longer thought to be a significant suspect.

'FOCUS ON SHIFTY'

The shifty suspect currently being hunted appeared to have bloody hands in the CCTV images.

But police believe it was a trick of the light on camera and he was actually holding an orange item, such as a Sainsbury’s plastic bag.

On the night of her murder, Sabina had been due to meet a man she had known for some time on a date at a pub, The Depot, in Pegler Square.

The private development where the prime suspect was caught on CCTV is just 30 yards from the pub, 400 yards from the park where Sabina’s body was found and a five-minute walk from her flat.

Sabina’s date assumed she had stood him up and she was not reported missing by anyone.

A post-mortem into the cause of Sabina’s death proved inconclusive.
Police are working on the theory that Sabina fell victim to a predator who struck at random.

'SMILING, LOVELY WOMAN'

Mum-of-two Abbey Harris, 29, lives opposite Sabina’s flat and said she used to say hello to the primary school teacher in passing.

She said: “You know when someone smiles and it just fills you with warmth?

"She would smile at you and say hello and it would instantly put you in a good mood."

Sabina was the middle one of three girls who grew up with their parents in Sandy, Beds.

Her father, Abdur Rouf, works as a chef at an Indian restaurant in the family’s home town.

Colleagues there said they were shaken by Sabina’s death and visited Mr Rouf’s home to pay condolences.

“His wife and their daughters were in tears. Abdur kept saying, ‘Why did it happen?’

“Two days earlier, he had spoken with Sabina. Then he got a phone call from the police to say his daughter was dead.

“She was a lovely, smiling woman.  Everyone is absolutely upset by it. We are all shaken by it.”
