Rollercoaster victim wakes up after 2 month coma as she suffered horror injuries

A woman injured in a horror rollercoaster accident has finally woken up from a coma after two months.

Shylah Rodden, 26, was hit by a carriage from the Rebel Coaster at the Royal Melbourne Show in Australia in September.

She was launched around nine metres into the air after it hit her at 70km per hour while she was trying to get her phone from the area.

She suffered injuries to her head, pelvis, legs, back and arms – and was placed into a medically induced coma at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

But earlier today (November 30) she woke up, and is now reportedly in stable condition.

However, her family told news.com.au that she was “still not out of the woods”, with staff claiming that they “haven’t seen anything as bad as this for a long time”.

Her dad Alan said at the time of the accident: “The injuries are horrific – horrific.

“She’s brain damaged. It’s pelvic, her arms, legs, back, neck – there’s hardly a thing that’s not broken.

“I just can’t work out how the hell so much damage has been done.”

Video footage shows the woman, who was actually a member of staff at the even, standing inside the safety rails of the ride before being struck.

She was seen being dragged along by it, too.

Despite the woman seemingly not following safety advice, the chairwoman of the Australian Institute of Health and Safety, Naomi Kemp, said that she was not to blame.

She said: “We not only have to think about the safety of the ride but also the safety area around the ride that it’s operating in.”

She did clarify that neither Ms Rodden or the ride operators were to blame.

A spokesman for the Royal Melbourne Show said: “Strict safety protocols are upheld in line with Victorian WorkSafe regulations.

“All rides on site have undergone stringent compliance inspections and have passed all the required safety documentation.”

No update on the woman's injuries has been given by the hospital or her family.
