The police officer is clinging on as the car makes its way down the road.

It appears the fleeing motorist then decides the game was up and slows down and an unmarked police transit van comes up alongside and swerves in front of the woman’s Audi.

‘Officers in an unmarked mini bus taxi pursued the woman who was arrested and detained for failure to comply with a traffic officer, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

The person videoing can be heard saying: ‘Oh my God! What’s happening here?’ and shouts ‘Stop, stop!’ as the driver honks his horn and gesticulates for the motorist to pull over.

The South African Police Service added to the tweet that the driver had been issued a fine by an officer for cellphone usage but the driver drove away with the officer on the bonnet.

It said: ‘Officers in an unmarked mini bus taxi pursued the woman who was arrested and detained for failure to comply with a traffic officer, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

‘The motorist also received the original fine for cell phone use’.

Gauteng community safety department spokesperson Ofentse Morwane said: ‘The conduct displayed by the driver is not only reckless but also smacks of arrogance.

‘It is of utmost importance that our law enforcement agencies should stamp their authority on those who disregard the rules of the road to keep other road users safe.’

The video has gone viral clocking up over 270,000 views on Twitter already.
