Moment neighbours drag mum from house fire she started seconds before explosion

Chilling CCTV footage has captured the moment brave neighbours successfully dragged a mum to safety from a house fire that she had started.

A dramatic video shows Sabina Khanom, 27, being rescued just seconds before the property erupted into flames in Newport, Wales.

The mum was heroically tackled by Gary Burroughs before the explosion, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

The neighbour blocked her from the front door after she ran into the flat which was starting to spread with smoke.

Khanom shouted: "I have to get my baby's clothes."

It was reported that the mum started the fire on purpose by lighting balls of tissue on her couch.

Two bike riders raised the alarm to their mother after they noticed the sofa was on fire. Their mother alerted the police.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the front windows had blown out, reports Daily Mail.

Khanom pleaded guilty to arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

She also confessed to drunk and disorderly behaviour and being in possession of a controlled class B drug.

It was reported that she was also in breach of a suspended sentence for using threatening, abusive, or insulting words or behaviour and being in possession of a bladed article.

The mum was jailed for two years and six months.

Gareth Williams, defending, said she has personality disorder and PTSD, and had taken alcohol and drugs.

He added that she didn't intend to hurt anybody.

Judge Michael Fitton KC said to her: "This was a very serious offence, you were responsible for the fire in a residential area where children were playing in the street.

"The risk to other people, not just the firefighters and residents, was a significant risk.

"Coming from what you have been struggling with for some time, the worse thing you could do is use alcohol, take cannabis or other drugs as a form of self-medication or treatment.

"It's a disaster to mix emotionally unstable personality disorder with drink and drugs."
