Moment bus is engulfed by flames on busy road in rush hour after a car ploughed into the back of it

  • TfL bus was engulfed in flames on the Ewell bypass in Surrey early this morning
  • Video shows blue car closely behind the bus which is also on fire and damaged
  • It is unknown if there were injuries and the emergency services arrived on scene

This is the shocking moment a bus burst into flames after a car crashed into the back of it during the morning rush hour. 

Footage shows the back of the red TfL bus engulfed in flames on the Ewell bypass, in Surrey, with thick grey smoke billowing from the vehicle’s windows.

Behind the bus is a blue car which is also on fire with flames bursting from the driver’s side door.

The front bumper appears to be hanging off and the vehicle appears to be touching the back of the bus, which is stopped at a bus stop on the bypass, also known as the A240.

AA Traffic news reports that traffic is queuing in the area due to road being closed as a result of the crash and that bus route 406 is on detour. 

Emergency services can be heard arriving on scene in the background of the video which was taken shortly after 7.20am this morning.

It is unknown if anybody was injured during the incident and the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. 

Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue and TfL have been contacted.
