Toronto police say a man has been shot and two men were seen fleeing the scene in west-end Toronto Thursday morning.

Police said officers responded to multiple calls at around 9:24 a.m. about a shooting in the area of Jane Street and Harding Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene and found a 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound in a parking lot. He was rushed to trauma centre in serious condition.

Police said there is no info on whether the shooting was targeted.

Insp. Jim Gotell told reporters Thursday morning that two men wearing dark clothing were seeing fleeing the scene on foot eastbound from the area.

“Anytime that there’s a shooting we’re obviously concerned, but it’s concerning that this happened in the daytime when there’s a lot of people around and there were a number of shots that were fired here,” Gotell. “There’s obviously a concern from us for people that are walking in the area that can become unintended victim of gunfire.”

“We’re obviously taking it very seriously.”

Neighbouring schools were in hold-and-secure as a precaution.

“I just heard boom boom boom boom boom and then it just stopped. so i thought maybe ti was a car or something so i looke dout the window so i thought a car passing. … i didn’t realize it was gunshots,” said a resident in the area who wanted to remain anonymous for safety concerns.

“It’s crazy because that’s where I’m living.”

The incident comes the morning after five teens were injured in a targeted shooting at a west-end Toronto apartment.

Emergency crews were called to a property on Clearview Heights near Trethewey Drive, north of Black Creek Drive and Eglinton Avenue West, just after 7:30 p.m. with reports gunshots were fired.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said a group of people were gathered in an apartment hallway when three male suspects dressed in dark-coloured clothing arrived in a black sedan. He said two of the three suspects entered through a side door and opened fire on the people in the hallway.

Gotell said it was too early to tell whether or not the two incidents are related.
