One of the two Metropolitan Police officers stabbed in the neck three times in London earlier this morning (September 16), while a colleague has been left with "life-changing" injuries.

The incident happened in the Leicester Square area at around 6am.

The Met had confirmed at the time that a man was arrested and was also in hospital.

"A young female police officer suffered a serious stab wound to her arm which may be life-changing in the Leicester Square attack, and a male officer was stabbed three times in the neck and once in the chest, but should make a full recovery," Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley said.

And a spokesman said at the time: "A Taser was deployed and a male was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker.

"He was taken to a hospital for treatment where he remains at this time."

No more details have been given, but the area was cordoned off by officers early this morning.

According to reports in the Independent, Crime Scene Investigators were seen outside the Shake Shack burger eaterie near the iconic M&M's World shop in the area.

Newly-appointed home secretary Suella Braverman tweeted: "Everyday we are safer thanks to the bravery of our policemen and women.

"I wish the police officers a swift recovery and my thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues"
