KING'S Cross has reopened after Standard Liege fans let off smoke bombs before their Europa League clash with Arsenal.

Footage showed hundreds of footie fans walking through red smoke after supporters let off a flare inside the station.

Transport for London (TfL) condemned the behaviour as "reckless and dangerous", adding: "we are lucky nobody was seriously injured".

British Transport Police (BTP) and the London Fire Brigade were called to the scene at around 1.30pm after a fire alarm sounded.

One worker fumed: "King's Cross closed because of these inconsiderate a**holes setting off flares and bangers.

"Police, ambulance and fire crew called, they should all be fined for wasting precious resource."

TfL said the incident had triggered an hour-long closure at the London transport hub, with red smoke having to be cleared from parts of the station.

The disruption mostly hit the Northern and Victoria line ticket hall areas.

TfL responded to tweets from delayed passengers saying the station was closed as they responded to a fire alert and that it was "just football supporters misbehaving".

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to Kings Cross Underground station at 1.30pm today following reports of large numbers of football fans setting off flares.

"The station has been closed while the London Fire Brigade respond, and the football fans are being dispersed by officers."

A TfL spokesperson said: "The safety of our staff and customers is our top priority. Behaviour like this is reckless and dangerous and we are lucky nobody was seriously injured.

"We thank our staff for acting quickly and calmly to evacuate the station alongside the police responding to this incident."

King's Cross is a few stops on the Tube from Arsenal's Emirates Stadium home ground in north London.
