Juan Williams announces he’ll be leaving 'The Five' but will remain at Fox News

Fox News’s Juan Williams announced at the end of The Five Wednesday that he would no longer be hosting the show, effective immediately.

“It's time now for one more thing, and I have an announcement,” Williams said. “This is my last day hosting The Five. COVID taught me a lot of lessons. As the show goes back to the New York studio, I will be staying in D.C.”

As the only left-leaning voice on the show, and on Fox News for that matter, things have not always gone smooth for Williams, who constantly found himself at odds with others on The Five. But, while he’s leaving the show, Williams said he’ll be staying at Fox News.

“I’ll be working for Fox out of Washington,” Williams said. “My work as a Fox News political analyst will continue.”

Following the announcement, Fox News VP Megan Albano provided a statement to Mediaite, stating in part, “We accommodated his request, understanding and appreciating his desire to remain closer to his family and recognizing that a remote co-hosting role on a roundtable in-studio program was not a long-term option.”

Albano went on to thank Williams for his contributions to the show, and welcomed him on set whenever he’s in New York.

The Five put together a montage of some of Williams’s more light-hearted moments, and before signing off, Williams expressed gratitude for his time on the show, and for the viewers.

“You know, it's been going on seven years since I’ve been a daily host of this show. The show's popularity has grown every single year,” Williams said. “So, thank you. Thank you so much to you, the viewers, thank you.”

Fox News says it will try out a rotating cast of liberal commentators in the position before choosing a permanent replacement for Williams.

The Five airs weeknights at 5 p.m. on Fox News Channel.
