Harry and Meghan want to be seen ‘as experts instead of celebs’, expert claims

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want to be viewed by the public as experts in their field rather than mere celebrities, a royal expert has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been heavily invested in charity work and world issues since they left the royal family, launching their non-profit organisation Archewell.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they would be stepping back from senior royal duties on January 8, 2020.

Gertrude Daly, who runs the Gert's Royal podcast, claims the couple "want to be viewed as experts on their topic, and transcend being viewed as mere celebrities".

The commentator claims this is why the couple's recent three day New York visit was mostly filled with "important organisations and world leaders".

But Gertrude Daly says their audience will tune in to what they're doing, no matter how 'expert' they are on the topic.

Daly told the Daily Star: "I think the Sussexes will find their impact comes from showing up and looking pretty.

"It doesn’t matter what they support, or how well they speak on the issue, most will tune in because it’s Harry and Meghan, not because of the subject matter.

"Their celebrity-obsessed fans in the US will listen and donate to the causes that the Sussexes suggest, because it's Harry and Meghan.

"That is part of American culture. Many Americans value and listen to celebrities more than they do experts in the field."

Gertrude also suggested that people who "don't already adore" the ex-royal couple will "care little about what they have to say".

The public "don’t want to be lectured by them any more than they want to be lectured by other celebrities," Gertrude Daly told us.

She added: ""But I think don’t think that is the type of popularity the Sussexes ultimately want.

"And I think through their various partnerships so far the Sussexes have tried to position themselves as experts."

The Daily Star has contacted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for comment.
