A person with knowledge of the decision says the New York Knicks have fired coach David Fizdale after two straight blowout losses dropped them to 4-18.

Fizdale ran practice Friday, but was then fired, the person told the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.

The Knicks have lost eight straight games, with the last two by scores of 132-88 to Milwaukee on Monday night and 129-92 to Denver on Thursday night. They have the worst record in the Eastern Conference after finishing with the worst record in the NBA last season in Fizdale’s first season.

White House tells Nadler it won’t participate in impeachment hearing

The White House on Friday slammed House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry anew and made clear it won’t participate in a Judiciary Committee hearing on Monday. "House Democrats have wasted enough of America’s time with this charade," White House counsel Pat Cipollone told Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler in a two-paragraph letter. Cipollone called the inquiry "completely baseless," a day after President Donald Trump urged Democrats to speed up their process so the country can get "back to business."

There's One Less Con Man in Congress, as Rep. Duncan Hunter Resigns

California Rep. Duncan Hunter has called it quits. Hunter pled to a conspiracy count as part of a plea bargain in a criminal campaign finance case against him on Tuesday. Then on Thursday the embattled representative was stripped of his congressional voting privileges by the House Ethics Committee; he resigned later that same day.

Announcing his resignation, the congressman released a statement, which read, “Shortly after the Holidays I will resign from Congress. It has been an honor to serve the people of California’s 50th District, and I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in me over these last 11 years.”

At this point, Hunter’s decision to step down likely surprised no one. The list of criminal counts, 60 in all, against him and the details of how he and his wife allegedly misused campaign finance funds rose to almost comedic levels.

Earlier this week, Hunter told KUSI News, “I think it’s important that people know that I did make mistakes. I did not properly monitor or account for my campaign money. I justify my plea with the understanding that I am responsible for my own campaign and my own campaign money.”

According to 10News in San Diego, the governor of California will call for a special election to fill the congressman’s vacated seat when an exact date of resignation is official.

California Congressman Duncan Hunter Will Step Down After Corruption Plea

Dec 6 (Reuters) – U.S. lawmaker Duncan Hunter will step down from his office, he said on Friday, days after pleading guilty to a federal charge of conspiring to misuse campaign funds.

“Shortly after the Holidays I will resign from Congress. It has been an honor to serve the people of California’s 50th District, and I greatly appreciate the trust they have put in me over these last 11 years,” he said in a statement.

Hunter, a California Republican, faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison for the crime, but his attorney has said prosecutors have agreed to recommend significantly less time than that.

Goldman Says Case to Diversify With Gold ‘as Strong as Ever’

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. said investors should diversify their long-term bond holdings with gold, citing “fear-driven demand” for the precious metal.

“Gold cannot fully replace government bonds in a portfolio, but the case to reallocate a portion of normal bond exposure to gold is as strong as ever,” Goldman analysts including Sabine Schels said in a note Friday. “We still see upside in gold as late cycle concerns and heightened political uncertainty will likely support investment demand” for bullion as a defensive asset.

The precious metal climbed to a six-year high in September as the Federal Reserve cut borrowing costs and the total pile of debt yielding less than zero climbed to a record $17 trillion, boosting the appeal of non-interest bearing gold.

Hedge funds and other large speculators boosted their bullish bets on the precious metal by 8.9% in the week ended Dec. 3, government data showed Friday. That’s the biggest gain since late September.

Gold has fallen more than 6% from the peak to close at $1,460.17 in the spot market Friday.

While Goldman said the correction on bullion prices has further room to run, the bank is still sticking to its forecast prices will climb to $1,600 over the next year.
