Girl, 13, who killed ‘loving’ UberEats driver, 66, admits murder

A 13-year-old girl has pleaded guilty to murder after she and another girl carjacked an UberEats driver before his car flipped and he died.

Mohammad Anwar, 66, died after being thrown from his Honda Accord during the violent incident in Washington DC, US, earlier this year.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded guilty in juvenile court to second-degree murder.

Prosecutors dropped other charges of armed carjacking, robbery and aggravated reckless driving on Thursday and the maximum sentence would see her released when she turns 21.

The older girl who was charged with murder in March has also reached a plea deal with prosecutors, The Washington Post reports – and she will only get a maximum of six years in jail.

She will be sentenced on Friday, June 4, while the younger girl will be sentenced next month, according to NBC Washington.

Both girls are in the custody of the DC Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services and face years in juvenile detention.

Mohammad Anwar, of Springfield, Virginia, was in a grey sedan and working as an UberEats driver when the girls asked him for a ride near the Navy Yard Metro station, prosecutors said.

Anwar had driven just a few blocks when the girls, armed with a stun gun, tried to steal his car in the 1200 block of Van Street SE.

He then tried to gain control of the car and accelerated, hit a tree and several parked cars, and flipped the car.

Police arrived and found Anwar injured on the pavement. Medics took him to a hospital, where he tragically later died.

Graphic clips shared on social media show Anwar struggling to regain control of his vehicle after they allegedly forced their way into the car.

"They're thieves," he is heard saying, as he tries to pull the girl out of the car. "This is my car!"

The video shows Anwar clinging on to the side of the vehicle as it drives away at speed, before crashing into a metal fence – crushing him between the barrier and the car door.

Two National Guard troops who were in the area pulled the two girls out of the flipped car as its wheels spun.

The girls then told bystanders the car belonged to them, prosecutors said, before they were detained at the scene.

In a GoFundMe post, Anwar was described as a "hard-working Pakistani immigrant who came to the United States to create a better life for him and his family."

"Anwar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who always provided a smile when you needed one," the family said.

"Words can not describe how our family is feeling currently.

"Devastation, confusion, shock, anger, heartache, and anguish are just a few that come to mind."
