Evil murderer Fred West appears to confess to the murder of missing teenager Mary Bastholm in a chilling interview.

In tapes uncovered in a new documentary, the sadistic serial killer appears to state he had to "give her a f**cking sorting out", referring to Mary.

West is one of Britain's most notorious killers and murdered at least 12 young women.

Nine of West's victims were discovered buried in that back garden of the home he shared with wife and accomplice Rose at their home in Gloucester in 1994.

Authorities suspect he may have killed other women, including 15-year-old waitress Mary, who has never been found.

It is reported that he confessed this killing to his son Stephen, but never told the police.

This revelation comes only weeks after the Channel 5 production team gave police a tip-off as to the location of Mary's body.

The Clean Plate cafe in Gloucester was excavated after it was discovered that West frequented the venue when Mary worked there as a waitress.

During the recording, which was made by a legal team, West is heard saying: "The girl, Mary Bastholm, remember I said that to you in the car. I had to go back and give her a f***ing sorting out," The Sun reported.

The tape was used in Channel 5's Fred and Rose West: The Search for the Victims, which begins on Monday.

In the recording, it is not clear who West is talking to or if he is recalling a conversation with his wife, Rose.

Leo Goatley, the lawyer for Rose West, said the serial killer, who killed himself while awaiting trial in 1995, was notorious for not telling the truth.

He told the Channel 5 documentary: "Fred West was a prolific liar. I'm quite sure that he did kill Mary Bastholm, but trying to extract the remote strands of truth from Fred's fantasies and lies was very difficult."

More than 50 years have passed since Mary disappeared but her remains have never been found.

Mr Goatley added: "One of the wicked and sinister things about the West case is that troubling feeling that there's more that needs to be discovered."

The excavation work at the cafe found no trace of Mary after officers determined that the evidence presented to them could have been material from a pipe that the producers accidentally drilled through.

Police thought they saw blue material matching Mary's coat when she went missing.

Assistant Chief Constable Craig Holden, of Gloucestershire Police, said he thought the pictures showed wreckage from a pipe they had drilled through appeared blue through imagining technology.

He said: "Everybody working on this is disappointed that we didn't find Mary. Allowing her family to finally lay Mary to rest after 50 years was absolutely the most important reason for this excavation.

"The information that was presented to us by the production company on May 7 was significant.

"The family had been contacted by the production company and the owners of the café and they were working together and the family were hugely supportive of the work of the production company.

"New information had come to light that we felt it was appropriate to assess. The new material was predominantly that there was a blue material in a void in the ground under the café."
