Female cop, 48, will keep her job despite mocking Madeleine McCann’s parents with sick holiday joke

A POLICE officer will keep her job despite mocking Madeleine McCann's parents with a sick holiday joke.

PC Paula Manos, 48, said she needed a break so much that she would even go on holiday with parents of missing Madeleine, Kate and Gerry McCann.

She will now be encouraged to "reflect and learn from the issue" during a police review process.

The Avon and Somerset cop had posted on Facebook: “I need a holiday so much, I’d be willing to go away with the McCanns at this point.”

One Facebook friend replied: “That would be a Renault Megane, yes?”

Her force’s Professional Standards Departmentinvestigated the post, which gained 23 likes when it was posted a day before lockdown.

'WRONG AND DISTURBING'

Madeleine, who was three at the time, vanished from the Portugese resort of Praia da Luz .

German paedophile Christian B was revealed last month as the prime suspect in the toddler's disappearance.

This week, The Sun reported Portuguese police were due to search at least 20 more wells for Madeleine amid fears her body was dumped by Christian B.

New witnesses are being sought as Portuguese officers step up the probe following “convincing” information.

POLICE INVESTIGATION

PC Manos is a Beat Manager for Avon and Somerset Police in Thornbury, near Bristol.

A source said of the McCann post. “It’s not the sort of thing one would expect the police to be doing.

“I think that it is wrong and a bit disturbing.

“She worked at the police force in inner Bristol before she moved to Thornbury two or three years ago."

Avon and Somerset Constabulary said it had investigated but the post did not "meet the threshold of misconduct".

A spokesman said: "However it does fall short of standards of behaviour expected by the public and police and will be dealt with under the 'practice requires improvement' process.

"The officer is expected to engage with a review process in which they are encouraged to reflect and learn from the issue."
