Donald Trump impeachment: Could Trump QUIT before being impeached? Expert says YES

Donald Trump is facing impeachment at the hands of House Democrats this year, as whistleblowers have come forward with information regarding the President’s relationship with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Whistleblower reports and a released transcript showing a telephone exchange between the leaders allege Mr Trump attempted to enlist Mr Zelensky to start “investigations” into 2020 Democrat presidential hopeful Joe Biden. As the President faces ongoing investigations, one expert believes he may subvert outcomes by relinquishing his position.

Could Donald Trump quit before being impeached?

Donald Trump is currently focussing on avoiding impeachment and his 2020 reelection bid.

His intentions for a second term, coupled with increasing online attacks against his Democrat accusers, suggests he is unwilling to move from his position.

However, according to one former Trump Organisation executive, the President would flee office before impeachment.

Barbara Res, who was Vice President of Mr Trump’s charitable wing from 1980 to 1992, said he would likely quit or “make a deal” to avoid impeachment.

She told CNN’s Reliable Sources: “It would be very, very, very bad for him to be impeached.

“I don’t know that he’ll be found guilty, but I don’t know that he wants to be impeached.

“I think that’s what this panic is about.”

“And my gut tells me he’ll leave office, he’ll resign.

“Or make some kind of a deal, even, depending on what comes out.”

As Donald Trump continues to lash out at his accusers via Twitter, House Democrats have taken further steps forward in impeachment proceedings.

Democratic chairmen of three House committees said they would move to subpoena US Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland after he failed to appear for his deposition earlier today.

Eliot Engel, chairman of the House foreign affairs committee, Adam Schiff of the House intelligence committee, and House oversight committee chairman Elijah Cummings have called for documents and testimony from the ambassador.

They wish to question Mr Sondland – who was directed by the State Department not to testify before Congress – over texts and emails stored on personal devices which are relevant to the impeachment inquiry.

Mr Trump railed against the news via Twitter, first voicing his support of Mr Sondland, and later attempting to discredit Mr Schiff.

He said in two separate Tweets: “I would love to send Ambassador Sondland, a really good man and great American, to testify, but unfortunately he would be testifying before a totally compromised kangaroo court, where Republican’s rights have been taken away, and true facts are not allowed out for the public to see.”

“Importantly, Ambassador Sondland’s tweet, which few report, stated, ‘I believe you are incorrect about President Trump’s intentions. The President has been crystal clear: no quid pro quo’s of any kind.’

“That says it ALL!”

The President later wrote: “Hasn’t Adam Schiff been fully discredited by now?

“Do we have to continue listening to his lies?”
