Coronavirus warning: Italy Health Minister issues ‘very important’ advice UK must take

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect countries around the world, Italy has become the worst hit nation with its death toll even surpassing China. The Italian Deputy Health Minister Pierpaolo Sileri issued important advice for the UK’s handling of the outbreak when he appeared on the BBC’s Andrew Marr show. Mr Sileri himself had contracted the disease, but has since recovered and is now back in work.

He told the BBC: “I think worker protection is very important.

“What we have observed in our hospitals has been observed in China too.

“I believe the hospital is the place where you can get infection, this happened even before the coronavirus.

“We all know that sometimes you can even get resistant infection too.”

Mr Sileri continued: “If you have infected patients, you need to have, in the hospital just for COVID people.

“You cannot have a COVID patient that’s being moved from infectious ward to radiology and so forth.

“A COVID hospital, I think, is mandatory.

“The other most important thing is that you need to improve primary care outside the hospital.”

The health minister added: “Especially for those who are sick and at home.

“It needs to be controlled by medical doctors at least twice a day.

“This is a very deceitful disease.”

Mr Sileri also said: “You may have fever for two days and then your alarms will go off.

“Then you need an ICU bed immediately.

“So you need somebody who looks after you very very closely even if you are at home.”

At the time of writing, Italy accounts for more than a third of all the deaths from the disease worldwide.

The total number of dead in Italy is now 10,779.
