Call for paedophiles to be castrated after rape and murder of nurse’s daughters

A Russian lawmaker is petitioning for paedophiles to be castrated and for the death penalty to be reinstated for child killers.

The tough change in law has been suggested in light of the brutal rape and murder of two young sisters at the hands of a convicted child sex attacker and murderer.

Courts in Russia this week heard 41-year-old Vitaly Molchanov confess to the killing of eight-year-old Elena Saprunova and her 13-year-old sister, Nana.

Violent monster Molchanov killed the girls one month after he started a romance with their mother, 40-year-old Valentina Saprunova, who he met via a dating app.

Divorced mother Ms Saprunova had agreed to move 1,600 miles with her children to live with Molchanov in Rybinsk, in Yaroslavl Oblast, West Russia – while oblivious to his past crimes of child rape and murder.

The horrified mother returned home following a 24-hour shift at a hospital where she works as a nurse to discover her daughters shredded by a knife.

Her boyfriend later made a video confession to the violent crime.

Now Sergey Mironov, the head of Fair Russia political party and former chairman of the county's upper house, has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to introduce tough new punishments for such crimes.

He said: “The tragedy in Rybinsk, where two sisters aged eight and 13 were raped and killed, caused a great public outcry.

“The killer had been previously repeatedly convicted of such crimes as murder, rape, desecration of the bodies of the dead.”

Mr Mironov went on to state the Russian constitution should be altered to permit the return of the death penalty for child killers.

The death penalty in Russia has been suspended since 1996.

Mr Mironov also suggested chemical castrating should be inflicted on child rapists: “To prevent new victims, to protect our children, radical solutions are needed.”

Russian psychiatrist Mikhail Pervushin has argued against the change in the laws, claiming chemically castrated paedophiles can become even more dangerous when released from jail.

He argues castration could lead to killings instead, and asked: “The big question is how these pedophiles will be tested for such a danger.”
