Brave dad rescues baby son, 1, from jaws of hungry wild dog

The family were camping in Fraser Island, Australia, when a dingo clamped its teeth around the 14-month infants neck and dragged him away.

His parents were woken to the harrowing sound of his screams “getting further away from the campervan”, said a paramedic.

Instinctively, the dad chased after the wild dog and prised his baby free, in the dramatic rescue yesterday.

The tot suffered deep cuts to his neck and minor cuts to his scalp, officials said.

“They said that the main dingo was surrounded by others.”

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service chief ranger Daniel Clifton said dingo ranger patrols have increased on the island.

“Obviously it occurred at night, it was dark,” he said.

“We can identify dingoes to some extent, but obviously, it takes a ranger being there or a really good description or a photo.”

Dingos are renown for killing babies and this attack is the third attack so far this year.

A mum was convicted of the murder of her nine-week-old baby in 1980.

But a court later found baby Azaria Chamberlain was taken by dingos and quashed the conviction.
