Boris Johnson unveils plan to help fast-track forces’ vets into good jobs to mark The Sun’s Military Awards – The Sun

BORIS Johnson today unveils a new government plan to help fast track forces veterans into good jobs to mark The Millies.

Under the PM’s initiative, all ex-servicemen and women will be guaranteed an interview for any public sector role they apply for.

The announcement is made to honour of the military heroes being celebrated tonight at The Sun’s annual Military Awards.

Boris will present an award at the glitzy central London bash. There will be no time limit for the guaranteed interviews, meaning vets will still get them even they left the Army, Royal Navy or RAF years ago.

They will start from Spring this year, and will be piloted by the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office, the Border Force and the Cabinet Office.

Vets’ skills and values of loyalty honed during their years of service in uniform are already highly prized by civil servant chiefs, and ministers want bosses in the private sector to follow on and make the same offer.

Cabinet Office Minister Oliver Dowden, who oversees the newly created Office for Veterans’ Affairs, said: “The end of military service does not mean an end to serving our great country.

“From teamwork to problem-solving, our veterans have incredible skills and experience that employers on civvy street are crying out for.

“I want to see even more of our ex-servicemen and women join the public sector so we all benefit from their talents.

"Today we are delivering on another manifesto promise to veterans and guaranteeing interviews for civil service jobs.” The move fulfils a Tory election manifesto pledge.

It also follows tax break introduced for bosses who employ vets, who are exempted having to pay national insurance contributions for them for a year.
