Biden and Trump spending final week in battleground states

Heading into the final week before Election Day, President Trump held three Pennsylvania rallies Monday, while Joe Biden was barely seen, nursing a nearly 8-point national lead in the polls.

On the heels of a Sunday rally in New Hampshire, Trump presided over three raucous campaign events across the Keystone State, which could live up to its nickname as a possible make-or-break battleground in the 2020 presidential race.

Biden, meanwhile, maintained his low-key schedule, holding a small surprise event in Chester, Pa. — just over the river from his Wilmington, Del., home, where he held a second gathering later in the day.

The former vice president holds a 5-point lead in purple Pennsylvania — home to 20 electoral votes — according to a RealClearPolitics average of polls.

He has opened up a 7.8-point national lead, according to RCP’s average as of Monday afternoon.

Among typical swing states, Biden has gained the healthiest lead — 8.1 points — in Michigan, home to 16 electoral votes, RCP reported Monday.

Trump, meanwhile, maintains a 3.2-point margin in Texas, despite bullish hopes by the Biden camp that Democrats can swing the state and its 38 electoral votes blue for the first time since 1976.

The most closely contested battleground state, according to RCP, is 16-electoral-vote Georgia, where Trump maintained a razor-thin 0.4-point polling lead as of Monday.

Ohio, with 18 electoral votes, and Iowa, with 6, also sat within 1-point margins as of Monday afternoon, tilting respectively toward Trump and Biden.

All of those states — Pennsylvania, Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Ohio and Iowa — broke for Trump in 2016.

Down the stretch of the final week to Nov. 3, Trump has another three-pack of rallies planned for Tuesday, with one apiece in Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska.

Wisconsin, which gave Trump 10 electoral votes in 2016, is as of Monday skewing 5.4 points toward Biden, while five-vote Nebraska — one of just two states to split its electoral votes — is projected to break 4-1 for Trump, after delivering him a clean sweep four years ago.

Biden on Tuesday will head South to try to pry Georgia away from Trump.

A cumulative 270 electoral votes are needed to clinch the presidency, but a winner is not expected to be declared on Election Night this year, thanks to a crush of mail-in ballots amid the coronavirus pandemic.
