Bear shows off hurdling skills in backyards of Montana neighborhood

Bear-y athletic! Moment playful bear races through backyards of Montana neighborhood and shows off its hurdling skills

  • The cub didn’t stop there, running onto another home and hurdling over its fence

A bear cub was captured on camera showing off its track and field skills by running through backyards and hopping over fences in Montana. 

Footage captured by Katie Cusker in Missoula shows the bear rushing through her garden on a sunny day before it stopped and contemplated whether to jump over her fence. 

Just a second later, the cub leaped over the barrier and ran to the yard of the home next door. 

It then hopped over the fence of Cusker’s neighbor before running off to the hills.

Cusker later told Storyful that the bear appeared in her yard while she was enjoying the evening sun on her back deck. 

The cub was the only bear that appeared in Cusker’s backyard with no signs or sightings of its parents in the area.

Montana’s black bear population is estimated to be 15,000. The state also has the second-largest grizzly population in the US after Alaska, thought to be around 1,800 to 2,000, according to AZ Animals. State park officials advise people not to run from bears and instead make the creature’s of human presence by speaking in an assertive voice, singing or, clapping hands together.
