Arapahoe County car crash kills man, leaves 4-year-old with life-threatening injuries

A car crash in Arapahoe County killed a man and left a 4-year-old with life-threatening injuries Thursday afternoon, the Aurora Police Department said.

Around 4:49 p.m. Thursday, Aurora Fire Rescue and Aurora Police responded to reports of a crash where they found a man lying on the ground. He was pronounced dead on scene. Two others were injured, including a 4-year-old with life threatening injuries and man with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash happened on South Buckley Road near East Arkansas Place. Police said in a press release that a the man who died was driving a white Pontiac sedan with the child in it’s rear-seat passenger in a child safety seat. They were turning east onto Arkansas Place from southbound Buckley Road when it was struck by a blue Audi sedan, driven by the man with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said he stayed on scene and has been cooperative with the investigation.

The northbound lanes of South Buckley Road were closed for awhile as investigators examined the scene, although it is not yet known if alcohol, speed or any other factors contributed to the crash.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or with dash-camera footage should contact the Aurora Police Traffic Section.

This is the 28th traffic-related fatality of 2022, according to police.
