£100,000 asking price for 'chalet' 'in need of work' home full of junk

A shed for £100,000! Estate agents want six-figure asking price for ramshackle ‘in need of work’ home full of junk with a tarpaulin roof

  • The Peak District house was listed as a ‘chalet’ but was said to be more of a ‘shed’
  • Located in Hathersage, Derbyshire, sellers said that it offered a ‘unique chance’ 
  • An auction for the property will take place on the December 19

A ramshackle two-bedroom ‘chalet’ on sale for £100,000 has been mocked for its junk-filled rooms and tarpaulin roof.

Prospective buyers poked fun at the ‘in need of work’ Peak District home after thinking it looked more like an expensive ‘shed’.

The property, located in Hathersage village, Derbyshire, has junk, furniture and tools piled up inside and outside –  to the point where the kitchen is inaccessible.

It also has a blue plastic sheeting on top of the property to stop rain water getting in, and part of its brick and wooden structure is missing at one end. 

While the property listing stated that it is ‘in need of work’, it also claimed that buying it offers a ‘unique chance’. 

The property listing reads: ‘This is a unique chance to buy a freehold property, boasting a range of opportunities from a holiday let to a residential home or even some form of activity centre.

‘The current chalet is in need of work but has a brick gable end and a small living space and kitchen.’

Furniture has been dumped in the rooms of the property and wood chunks fill the hallway

Many house hunters have since taken to Twitter to comment on the ‘chalet’ and its asking price.

Home hunter, Patrick McConnon, said: ‘I thought the Big Bad Wolf blew that house down.’

Rosemary Byde joked: ‘Chalet? That one is quite something.’

 Another added: ‘There is a carpet, but it doesn’t take centre stage..’

The small home is being sold by Auction House and is listed on Rightmove.

The property listing also said: ‘Offered to the market via online auction, and sat in a breath-taking location nestled in between Stanage Edge and Higger Tor is this off grid Chalet sat on a plot of 212sqm.

‘This property sits in the land of Overstone Farm, a short drive away from Hathersage and all the amenities it has to offer.’

Photographs of the property also show chunks of wood left in the hallway and paint coming off a wall.
